Corrections
We correct in place, we date the correction, and we do not quietly edit.
The rule
When we get something wrong, we fix it on the article and add a dated note saying what was wrong and what it now says. The note stays permanently. We do not silently amend published text, and we do not delete articles to resolve a complaint.
What counts
- Factual error. A wrong number, date, name, price, or misdescribed study. Corrected on the article with a note.
- Superseded figure. A price or a programme that has since changed. Updated, with the previous figure and its date retained, because the Index is a historical record as well as a current one.
- Regrade. New evidence meets the threshold an article stated for changing its grade. The grade changes and the article logs both grades and the reason.
- Disagreement. You think our interpretation is wrong but our facts are right. Not a correction. Often worth publishing anyway, and we do.
How to report one
Write to editor@baseline-media.com with the article, the specific passage, and what the correct information is. For prices, send the published page that contradicts ours, which is the fastest possible route to a fix, and we will usually make it the same day.
